چکیده
The present study tries to investigate the effect of mental imagery on learning and improvement of forehand and backhand skills of the better hand and then transmitting them to the weaker hand among table tennis players. In the present cross-sectional research, out of120 students, 45 students were selected in a randomized way. Then, they were randomly divided into three mental imagery, physical practice and mental-physical imagery groups. Mental imagery and mental-physical practice groups were then participated in a PETLEP mental imagery program for six weeks of three practice sessions. Study results revealed that mental imagery with positive thinking had significant effect on the improvement of forehand and backhand skills of the stronger hand. Furthermore, mental imagery accompanied by a positive thinking had a significant impact on the transmission of forehand and backhand skill to the weaker hand. On the other hand, the comparison of pre-test and post-test results of the mental-physical group and also the comparison of post-test results of the mental-physical group with that of mental imagery and physical practice groups showed that mental-physical imagery significantly affects forehand and backhand skills of the stronger hand, and also the transmission of forehand/backhand skills to the weaker hand. Comparing mental imagery and physical practice groups also reveals that the former significantly impacts the forehand/ backhand skills of the stronger hand, and also the transmission of forehand/backhand skills to the weaker hand.

The effect of somatosensory input on motor imagery depends upon motor imagery capability
We investigated that the relationship between motor imagery ability and the effect of tactile input associated with holding a tennis racket on motor imagery of the forehand and backhand swings. The effect was assessed by the time utilized for motor imagery (mental chronometry). Seventeen tennis players imagined forehand and backhand swings with a forehand grip, a backhand grip or while holding ...

متن کاملAn isokinetic profile of trunk rotation strength in elite tennis players.
PURPOSE The changes in stroke production in the modern game of tennis have increased the demands on trunk rotation in elite tennis players. Unlike the shoulder, where unilateral strength adaptations have been identified, no study to date has objectively quantified side to side rotational trunk strength in elite tennis players. METHODS One hundred nine elite tennis players were tested using a ...
متن کاملKinesthetic imagery and tool-specific modulation of corticospinal representations in expert tennis players.
Specific physical or mental practice may induce short- and long-term neuroplastic changes in the motor system and cause tools to become part of one's own body representation. Athletes who use tools as part of their practice may be an excellent model for assessing the neural correlates of possible bodily representation changes that are specific to extensive practice. We used single-pulse transcr...
